Pro-Democracy Group Urges President Tinubu and Security Agencies to Halt Attacks on APC Members in Bayelsa State

A pro-democracy group in Bayelsa State, known as the New Generation Leaders, has issued a call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and other security agencies to intervene in response to reported attacks on All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the state.

Condemnation of Attacks:

In a statement released by the National Coordinator of the group, Apostle Bodmas Kemepadei, the attacks on APC stalwarts and supporters were strongly condemned.

These attacks included an attempted assault on the Local Government Area of APC gubernatorial candidate, Timipre Sylva, by individuals suspected to be thugs dressed in military uniforms.

Senseless and Callous Strategy:

Kemepadei described the attacks, orchestrated by the ruling party in the state, as senseless and callous tactics.

Rather than engaging in the democratic process of campaigning and seeking votes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had allegedly resorted to assaulting and mistreating law-abiding APC supporters.

Threat to Take Action:

The New Generation Leaders of Bayelsa State group issued a warning, stating that they would take action against the ruling party if President Tinubu did not intervene.

They called for the President to direct security agencies to be vigilant in the face of continued attacks on their party members.

Group’s Appeal to Authorities:

The statement made it clear that the attacks on APC members are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to democracy.

The group appealed to President Tinubu, the IGP, and other security agencies to take immediate action to bring those responsible for these acts of violence to justice before the situation escalates further.

Vigilance Required:

The New Generation Leaders group emphasized that they are closely monitoring the ongoing attacks on APC members, which they believe are linked to the party’s increasing popularity and growing support in the state.

They called on the President to intervene by instructing security agencies to remain alert and responsive to the continuous attacks on their party members.

Conclusion:

The pro-democracy group’s call for intervention highlights the need for a swift response to protect the democratic process and the safety of political party members in Bayelsa State.

It remains to be seen how the authorities will address these concerns and ensure a fair and peaceful political environment in the state.
