In the trial of Senzo Meyiwa’s murder, the defense is anticipated to cross-examine Captain Bonginkosi Mtshali.

Captain Mtshali provided his testimony at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on August 24th, explaining the circumstances around the firearm confiscated from the third accused, Mthobisi Mncube, and why it was not taken as expected.

VIEW: SENZO MEYIWA TRIAL During the incident on October 26, 2014, when soccer star Senzo Meyiwa was shot, his close associates including Mthokozisi Thwala, Tumelo Madlala, his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi Gladness Khumalo, her sister Zandile Khumalo, her then-boyfriend Longwe Twala, and Kelly’s two children Christian and Thingo were present.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria is presiding over the trial of five men accused of the murder: Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They are facing charges including premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a license, and possession of ammunition. All five defendants have pleaded not guilty. The trial has recommenced under the jurisdiction of Judge Ratha Mokgoathleng.

In the usual course of court proceedings, the day begins at 10:00, breaks for lunch at 13:00, and resumes at 14:00. However, occasional unforeseen circumstances might lead to delays, causing the court to adjourn earlier for tea or lunch than the stipulated times mentioned above.
