With the new rugby season on the horizon, the Vodacom Bulls are making some exciting moves to beef up their squad.
One of the biggest headlines is the return of Springbok lock Marvin Orie, a World Cup winner, back to Pretoria.
This signals a clear ambition from the Bulls to come back stronger and challenge for top honours both locally and in international competitions.
Marvin Orie Returns to Strengthen the Bulls’ Forward Pack
Marvin Orie’s homecoming to the Bulls is a real statement signing.
The 32-year-old lock, fresh from playing in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has agreed to leave French side Perpignan to rejoin the Pretoria-based team.
Orie isn’t new to the Bulls – he previously played for them between 2014 and 2016 before moving around with stints at the Lions, Stormers, and in Wales with the Ospreys.
Bringing back such a seasoned and world-class player is a major boost for the Bulls.
His international experience and leadership will add much-needed depth and toughness to their pack as they eye dominance in the Currie Cup and United Rugby Championship (URC).
More Reinforcements Coming Through the Ranks
Orie’s arrival is just the start. The Bulls are also welcoming back Jeandré Rudolph, a versatile loose forward who’s decided to leave the Cheetahs after their recent SA Cup campaign.
Rudolph has solid experience, having played for the Bulls and Sharks in the past, and his flexibility in the back row will be valuable.
Adding to the mix is promising young lock Dylan de Leeuw, who’s been training with the Bulls for a couple of months while recovering from injury.
At 23, de Leeuw brings youthful energy and potential; he has represented Western Province, the Junior Springboks, and even played overseas for Zebre in Italy.
Locking him down full-time could pay dividends for the Bulls’ future.
Star-Studded Signings Set to Make a Splash
The Bulls’ recruitment drive goes well beyond the forwards.
Fans are eagerly awaiting a big reveal in July, expected to include huge names like flyhalf Handré Pollard, centre Jan Serfontein, lock Nicolaas Janse van Rensburg, and scrumhalf Paul de Wet.
All of them bring serious talent and experience, reinforcing the Bulls’ commitment to building a powerhouse squad.
With Jake White at the helm, aiming for trophies on all fronts, these signings show the Bulls are serious about competing at the highest level.
Blending veteran Springboks with young talent creates a solid foundation for success in the coming seasons.
