The Argentine football icon beat out Erling Haaland of Manchester City for the award, which was presented at the 2,500-capacity Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France on Monday, October 30, 2023.

Guinness World Records congratulated Messi on his victory, calling him the “undisputed GOAT” in a post on Twitter.
Messi’s win extends his lead over Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won the award seven times.

Messi’s win is also significant because he is the first player to win the Ballon d’Or while playing outside of Europe.
