Talks about a potential heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have reignited excitement among boxing fans — but according to promoter Frank Warren, there might be more than just money standing in the way.
The real hurdle could come from inside Fury’s own family.
The Comeback That Has Everyone Talking
After his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last December, Tyson Fury announced his retirement, insisting he was done with boxing for good.
But last month, the 37-year-old hinted at a possible U-turn, teasing fans with talk of a long-awaited face-off with fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has even been optimistic enough to pencil in next summer as a potential date for the blockbuster bout — a fight that has been years in the making.
Frank Warren’s Big Prediction
Despite all the buzz, Fury’s longtime promoter Frank Warren isn’t convinced it’ll happen soon.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Warren said he believes Fury will return to the ring in 2026 — but added that his family could throw a wrench in those plans.
“It will come down to the money and what’s available,” Warren explained.
“Tyson’s been busy this year with Netflix and other projects, but if the right money’s on the table, I suspect we’ll see the Joshua fight. Whoever Tyson faces next will be a massive event.”
Warren then pointed to the influence of Fury’s wife and father.
“We can’t forget that his wife Paris and his dad John don’t want him to fight,” he said.
“It’s happened before — we missed Lennox Lewis vs. Riddick Bowe, and Mike Tyson’s fight with Lewis came a decade too late.
Still, if this one happens, it could fill Wembley four times over.”
Paris Fury’s Pleas to Her Husband
Paris Fury has never hidden her fears about her husband’s boxing career.
Over the years, she’s begged him multiple times to hang up his gloves for good — fearing the physical toll the sport could take.
The 35-year-old, who shares seven children with the Gypsy King, urged him not to fight Deontay Wilder back in 2020.
Despite her pleas, Tyson went on to not only face Wilder but also beat him twice, before taking on Derek Chisora, Francis Ngannou, and eventually Usyk in back-to-back bouts.
In an earlier interview with The Mirror, Paris confessed, “I’d like him to beat Anthony Joshua and then stop.
He’s in the ring with supreme boxers, and we both know how dangerous it is. One shot can change everything.
If all the belts were on the line, it would be an incredible fight — but after that, I’d want him to retire undefeated. He can’t keep doing this forever.”
John Fury’s Controversial Involvement
Tyson’s father, John Fury, has also played a polarizing role in his son’s career.
The 60-year-old was banned from Tyson’s corner during the Usyk rematch earlier this year after a string of controversial incidents.
During the build-up to the first fight, John made headlines for all the wrong reasons — including a bizarre headbutting incident with a member of Usyk’s camp that left him bloodied.
His behavior didn’t go unnoticed by fans or Fury’s trainer, SugarHill Steward, who later confirmed that John would not be allowed in the corner for the second fight in Saudi Arabia.
What Lies Ahead for the Gypsy King?
As it stands, Fury’s future in boxing remains uncertain.
While fans are desperate to see him trade punches with Anthony Joshua, the decision ultimately rests with the man himself — and perhaps even more, with the people closest to him.
Between family concerns, Netflix projects, and the lure of a multi-million-pound payday, Tyson Fury’s next move will be one to watch.
Whether the Gypsy King chooses to make one last triumphant return or finally step away from the ring for good, the world will be waiting — gloves ready.
