Otiz Selfo: A Designer to Watch
Troy highlighted the brilliance of Otiz Selfo, saying, “He’s a local designer who creates both men’s and women’s wear. This piece is very glamorous, high-end, and adorably chic.”
He particularly loved how Otiz takes classic styles, like a double-breasted jacket, and adds unique embellishments.
“You wouldn’t normally consider this style masculine, but the cut and fit make it look elegant and undeniably masculine,” he explained during an exclusive chat with The South African.
Excitement for Emerging Designers
As a fashion lecturer, Troy shared his excitement about the upcoming designers at the event, particularly mentioning one standout: Rebirth.
“She studied at the University of Johannesburg, and she’s incredibly talented,” he remarked.
Looking ahead to the Autumn/Winter 2025 collection, Troy expressed his hope for a shift towards the decolonization of fashion.
“I’d love to see more African essence and elements incorporated into the designs. It’s thrilling to think about how we can showcase our rich cultural diversity and beautiful mix of backgrounds,” he said.
Celebrating Diversity in Fashion
Troy also applauded the diversity displayed at SA Fashion Week, noting that the designers excelled in featuring models of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds.
“They did an amazing job,” he stated. “It’s often a topic of complaint when it comes to representation, but this year, they really hit the mark.”
He eagerly anticipated the runway presentation from Thando Mangaliso’s Sun Goddess brand, underscoring the excitement of new creative voices in the industry.
