In a significant development, the Ogun State command of the Nigeria Police Force has officially acknowledged the arrest and detention of one of its personnel found guilty of extorting and assaulting a young lady.

The Inspector, currently facing trial, committed the reprehensible offense within the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, released an official statement on Tuesday, revealing that the arrest followed an investigation prompted by public outrage over a viral video.

The video depicted the officer assaulting and extorting a 24-year-old woman at a checkpoint near Tai Solarin University of Education, specifically at Ijagun junction.

Thorough Investigation Confirms Misconduct

According to Odutola, the investigation conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department confirmed the officer’s misconduct.

It included tracing the account number where the extorted money was deposited, which has now been recovered and marked as exhibits.

Detention and Disciplinary Proceedings

The Inspector, along with other rank and file, has been detained for orderly room trial. The officer involved has been issued an official query, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha.

The Provost department is overseeing the disciplinary proceedings.
