A new “American Pie” film is in production.
Written by Adam Herz and directed by Paul Weitz, the 1999 sex comedy “American Pie Presents” has inspired three sequels and five spin-off films.
Actress Sujata Day of “Insecure” has now signed on to develop a new script.
According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” the story is based on an original proposal by the director of “Definition Please” and is billed as a fresh take on the saga, however plot details have not yet been published.
Tara Reid, who played Vicky in the original film, reprised the role two years later in “American Pie 2.” She has revealed that she and her co-stars would love to create another installment in the series.
She stated, “We’ve been discussing this for years. All of us would love to do it, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
In the past, the actress has defended the risqué humor of the series, claiming that the films all had “heart” and were not cruel, unlike many contemporary comedies.
She stated, “At the time, so many actresses were afraid to make it. They believed that it went too far.
“But ultimately, it’s a film about awkward adolescents with so much heart.
“What I appreciate most about this film is that there is no bullying or cruelty. The majority of comedy produced today are cruel.”
In addition, the “Sharknado” actress has stated she still desires to win an Academy Award and has even practiced her speeches in front of the mirror at home.
She stated, “I still desire the Oscar. That’s the dream of every performer.
“You practice your planned speech in front of the mirror using toothpaste as your microphone.
There is still time for me to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
