On Tuesday, a devastating explosion rocked the José Cuervo tequila factory in Mexico, leading to the death of six workers and injuring three others.
The blast occurred at around 4:30 p.m. in the municipality of Tequila, causing significant damage at the site.
According to the Jalisco Civil Defense, the explosion spread to several areas within the distillery, resulting in the rupture of three large containers, each spilling 219,000 liters of tequila.
Surveillance footage captured the intense moment when the boiler tank was thrown into the air, followed by a massive fireball.
The force of the explosion hurled the tank into an empty lot several yards away from the La Rojeña Factory. Thankfully, no tourists or locals in the vicinity were injured.
Response and Safety Measures
The tequila company, Casa Cuervo, has emphasized its commitment to safety, stating that it will enhance security protocols at all its facilities.
Tequila Mayor Alfonso Magallanes revealed that the explosion happened while workers were welding the boiler tank.
In response, several local distilleries have temporarily halted their operations.
Ongoing Investigation
Firefighters discovered the sixth victim’s body in a pit as they worked to clear debris from the scene.
Magallanes also noted that state civil defense engineers will be evaluating the damage, including the spillage of tequila into a nearby river.
On Wednesday morning, a second blast was reported, but fortunately, no further injuries occurred.
Firefighters managed to control the flames before they reached another container holding 200,000 liters of tequila.
Continued Efforts and Monitoring
The Jalisco Civil Defense has reassured the public that local authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure community safety and prevent further incidents.
