Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s attempt to remove “Pitt” from her legal last name has hit a snag.
According to her attorney, a clerical error has caused a delay in the court hearing that was set to address this request.
Shiloh, the daughter of high-profile actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, had planned to make this change after turning 18 on May 27.
However, Peter Levine, her legal representative, shared that the hearing, which was supposed to be held in Los Angeles Superior Court, has been postponed to August 19.
Levine explained that the delay was due to the court’s failure to complete a necessary background check in time.
Levine further clarified that anyone seeking a name change must undergo a background check conducted by the court clerk.
Unfortunately, due to this clerical oversight, Shiloh’s hearing has been rescheduled.
Shiloh’s parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, separated in 2016 and have been working through the details of their divorce ever since. Besides Shiloh, the couple shares five other children: Maddox, Zahara, Pax, Knox, and Vivienne.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Brad Pitt was distressed over Shiloh’s decision to drop his last name.
An insider revealed that the actor, who is still deeply connected to his children, finds it hard to cope with these reminders of his estrangement from them.
In early July, Shiloh publicly announced her intention to change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie in a statement published in the Los Angeles Times.
This legal step requires that a notice of the name change be published in a newspaper at least a month before a judge can approve the petition.
Legal and Personal Context
An insider mentioned that Shiloh managed this legal process independently, funding it herself without her mother’s involvement. This move is reportedly linked to past issues, including allegations of abuse.
Angelina Jolie has previously accused Brad Pitt of physical abuse during a 2016 flight, as documented in an FBI report released in 2022.
Background on the Jolie-Pitt Relationship
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship began after Pitt’s 2005 divorce from Jennifer Aniston. The couple, who had multiple children together, only legally married in 2014.
Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, and both she and Pitt were declared legally single by 2019. Pitt has since been romantically linked to jewelry designer Ines de Ramon.
