A member of the U.S. Secret Service assigned to protect Vice President JD Vance has reportedly been removed from active duty after allegations surfaced that sensitive information about the vice president’s family travel arrangements was shared with the media.

According to reports, the agent is accused of providing information that was later used in a media report detailing aspects of the vice president’s travel schedule and the challenges faced by members of his protective detail.

The published report described several aspects of the Vance family’s travel, including a planned Marine Corps helicopter trip involving the vice president and one of his sons for a golf lesson.
The outing ultimately did not take place after severe thunderstorms and strong winds forced the plans to be canceled.
The article also revealed that the Secret Service used the codename “Bobcat” when referring to Vice President Vance and cited multiple anonymous sources said to have knowledge of his travel schedule and flight arrangements.

Following publication of the story, Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn reiterated the expectations placed on agents serving on protective assignments.
He emphasized that agents accept demanding schedules as part of their responsibilities, including long hours, extensive travel, work during weekends and holidays, and the flexibility required to ensure the safety of senior government officials while allowing them to maintain as much normalcy as possible.
Quinn also stressed that the role requires unwavering dedication, discipline, and around-the-clock commitment.
