On Wednesday, the Senate vote on the measure ended with 49 in favor and 44 against, clearly missing the 67 votes needed for a supermajority.
Most Republicans, with the exception of Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski and Maine’s Susan Collins, opposed it.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who pushed for the vote, didn’t hold back.
He stated, “Senate Republicans told every woman in America: ‘Your body.
Our choice’” and accused them of aligning with the MAGA extremist anti-freedom agenda.
Trump Weighs in on North Dakota’s Law
Meanwhile, speculation continues about Donald Trump’s potential vice president pick.
The former president voiced his thoughts on North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum’s decision to sign a “heartbeat” law that bans abortions after six weeks.
In an interview on Fox News Radio, Trump clarified his stance, saying, “Abortion is a states issue,” but he added, “Burgum signing a six-week abortion ban is a little bit of an issue.”
Trump noted, “It’s a pretty strong ban; I think Doug is great, but he has taken a very strong stance.”
Arizona Abortion Rights Group Sues Over Language
In Arizona, Arizona for Abortion Access, the group pushing a broad abortion amendment for the November ballot, is suing the state over the term “unborn human being” used in voter pamphlets.
They argue that this term is biased, associating it with anti-abortion rhetoric.
The group contends that using the term “fetus” would be more neutral and medically accurate.
The Arizona Secretary of State’s office is currently checking the signatures submitted by the group to potentially include the amendment on the ballot.
If successful, the amendment could overturn the state’s 15-week abortion law and many other pro-life regulations.
