Russia unleashed a large-scale overnight missile offensive against Ukraine, leaving at least five people dead and dozens injured in one of the most significant attacks in recent months.
Ukrainian officials said the strikes targeted multiple regions, with the heaviest damage reported in Kyiv and the northeastern city of Kharkiv.
Authorities confirmed that four people were killed in Kharkiv after missiles struck a postal logistics facility on the city’s outskirts, while another civilian died in Kyiv.
More than 35 others suffered injuries across both cities, with several victims reported to be in critical condition.
Zelensky Condemns One of the Largest Ballistic Attacks on the Capital
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the assault on Kyiv as among the most intense ballistic missile attacks the capital has faced since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia deployed a combination of advanced weapons, including Iskander ballistic missiles, hypersonic Zircon missiles, and approximately 125 attack drones.
Air defense units managed to intercept 18 of 41 incoming missiles and shot down 108 drones before they reached their targets.
Despite those interceptions, several missiles penetrated the defenses and struck parts of the Kyiv region.
Residential Buildings and Warehouses Damaged in Kyiv Region
Officials said the overnight bombardment caused destruction across several districts surrounding Kyiv. Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported damage to residential buildings, commercial properties, a supermarket, and a student dormitory.
Emergency crews spent hours battling fires that erupted at two warehouse complexes, while Ukraine’s emergency services confirmed that a logistics hub in Bucha district was also hit, leaving two people injured.
The attacks added to mounting concerns over Russia’s continued use of large-scale missile barrages aimed at Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
Kharkiv Suffers Heavy Casualties After Postal Facility Strike
Kharkiv endured some of the deadliest consequences of the latest assault.
Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said missiles struck a postal terminal, killing four men between the ages of 24 and 62.
Medical officials noted that several survivors remain in serious condition as rescue operations continue at the damaged site.
The city, located close to the Russian border, has remained a frequent target of missile and drone attacks throughout the conflict.
Ukraine Responds With Deep Strikes Inside Russian Territory
While Russian missiles were hitting Ukrainian cities, Kyiv also continued its campaign against strategic targets inside Russia.
President Zelensky announced that Ukrainian security forces struck three oil storage facilities simultaneously in Russia’s Stavropol region, while military units attacked another fuel-related installation in the same area.
He also said Ukrainian forces successfully targeted three vessels described as part of Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” operating in the Black Sea, arguing that such operations increase pressure on Moscow to end the war.
Oil Infrastructure Damaged in Russia
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium confirmed that one of its terminals near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk had been struck during the attacks.
According to the company, two oil tankers sustained damage, forcing the suspension of oil loading activities. Officials said there were no injuries or reports of oil spills.
Separately, the governor of Russia’s Stavropol region said a Ukrainian drone attack triggered a fire at an industrial park.
Long-Range Drone Campaign Expands
Ukraine has increasingly focused on long-range drone operations targeting Russia’s energy sector, arguing that oil and gas facilities are legitimate military objectives because they help finance Moscow’s war effort.
Earlier this month, Ukrainian officials claimed that nearly 43% of Russia’s oil refining capacity had been disrupted by recent attacks, although that figure has not been independently verified.
The latest strikes continue a broader strategy aimed at weakening Russia’s fuel production and logistics network far from the battlefield.
Wildberries Warehouses Among Recent Targets
The overnight missile barrage followed Ukrainian drone attacks on warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer.
Russian authorities reported that eight people were killed across two warehouse facilities following those strikes.
Seven fatalities occurred at a warehouse in Tambov, southeast of Moscow, while another person died at a facility in Elektrostal near the Russian capital.
Dozens of others were injured as large fires broke out at both locations.
Wildberries, often compared to Amazon, has grown into one of Russia’s largest e-commerce companies and was valued at approximately $12.6 billion by Forbes Russia this year after merging with advertising firm Russ to form the RWB Group.
Ukraine Urges Allies for More Missile Defenses
As Russia continues to intensify missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, Zelensky renewed his appeal to Ukraine’s Western partners for additional air defense systems and ballistic missile interceptors.
He stressed that strengthening protection against ballistic missiles remains Ukraine’s highest security priority, saying interceptors are needed daily to defend cities from increasingly sophisticated aerial assaults.
The latest exchange of attacks highlights the escalating intensity of the conflict, with both sides expanding strikes beyond frontline positions to target critical infrastructure and strategic assets.
