Richard Madeley sparks fresh health concerns live on Good Morning Britain after battling croaky voice and revealing arm fracture on-air in London studio

If you tuned into Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, you might’ve noticed something a little off with Richard Madeley right from the get-go.

Just minutes into the live broadcast, Richard sounded hoarse—and it didn’t go unnoticed. His co-host, Susanna Reid, didn’t waste any time addressing the elephant in the room.

“Good morning, Britain!” she cheerfully greeted viewers before turning to Richard with a worried glance.

“I’m a bit concerned we might lose you through the programme…” she admitted.

Richard’s Voice Sparks Concern

Richard, clearly struggling with his voice, pointed to his throat and said, “This thing? I think it’ll get stronger throughout the programme. That’s my prediction.”

Susanna let out a laugh and carried on, but it was clear she was keeping an eye on her co-host.

It’s not the first time this week that Richard’s health has caused concern.

Monday’s Show Reveals a Painful Injury

Earlier in the week, Richard showed up to the show with a visible cast on his arm—and fans were quick to notice.

Right at the top of the broadcast, Susanna prompted him to explain the sudden accessory.

“Richard… you better explain,” she said.

With a grin, he joked, “I thought you were going to ask, ‘Did you have a good break?’”

The camera zoomed in on his bandaged wrist as Susanna exclaimed, “That looks sore!”

A Fall in France Ends in a Double Fracture

Richard then shared how he injured himself: “It’s a double fracture of the wrist.

I was walking pretty quickly down a steep pavement—this was in France last Friday.

The pavement was loose, and it flipped up and sent me flying.

I thought for a second, ‘Am I going to win this, or is gravity?’ Gravity won. I hit the ground hard.”

When Susanna asked if it was painful, Richard shrugged it off with his usual dry humour: “We’re not talking about pain thresholds. We don’t think about pain.”

Behind the Scenes: Contract Drama at ITV

Richard’s health worries this week come on the heels of recent rumours that he was nearly cut from Good Morning Britain altogether.

According to reports, ITV has been making significant cutbacks to its daytime programming, and Richard’s name was apparently on the chopping block.

The veteran broadcaster—rumoured to be earning around £300,000 a year—was reportedly “furious” at the prospect.

However, after some high-level talks with ITV bosses, he seems to have struck a deal.

He’ll stay on the show, but in a reduced, part-time role with a pay cut.

Lorraine Kelly Also in the Crosshairs

And it’s not just Richard feeling the squeeze. Lorraine Kelly, another big name at ITV, was also caught up in the shake-up.

The 65-year-old presenter, whose show has already been shortened to just 30 minutes, was reportedly asked to consider retirement.

But she wasn’t ready to say goodbye just yet.

Insiders say she’s planning to ride out the rest of her £500,000 contract before stepping away from ITV by the end of next year.

One ITV insider told The Sun: “This one has really rocked the ITV corridors because Richard is such a big name and a legend of daytime telly.”

Still Standing… For Now

Despite all the speculation and recent drama, Richard remains on-screen—for now.

“By Friday, it became clear he had a meeting with top ITV execs,” the source added.

“He’s managed to stay on the show, just with significantly fewer hours.”

Representatives for both Richard Madeley and Lorraine Kelly, as well as ITV itself, have been contacted for comment, but have yet to respond.
