Proud father Gary Barlow shares insights into his children’s academic goals in medicine and physiology and their choice to avoid the entertainment industry

Gary Barlow’s children have chosen a path far removed from their father’s legendary career in music.

The Take That frontman, who shares three children—Daniel, 24, Emily, 22, and Daisy, 15—with his wife of 25 years, Dawn Andrews, recently opened up in an interview with The Mirror about his family life and why his children prefer academics over showbiz.

Despite Barlow’s impressive career and a fortune of £90 million, his children are carving out their own identities, with no inclination toward the entertainment industry.

Academic Pursuits Over Showbiz

Barlow shared that his older two children, Daniel and Emily, have embarked on careers in fields like medicine and physiology, with interests in strength and conditioning.

His youngest, Daisy, is still exploring her options but is similarly studious.

“They’re very different from me and my wife,” Barlow commented, adding that while he wouldn’t discourage them from pursuing music, he respects their choices.

“It’s been a great business for me,” he said, emphasizing his contentment in his own career.

The Joy of Showbiz

Reflecting on his own journey, Barlow expressed gratitude for a fulfilling career in the entertainment world, acknowledging that while it has its challenges, it’s a rewarding field.

“Every day, I still love what I do,” he shared, explaining how grateful he feels to earn a living through music.

“There’s definitely a harder world out there than the one I’m in.”

New Adventures on Screen

Gary’s reflections came as he prepared for the premiere of his latest venture, an ITV travel show called Gary Barlow’s Wine Tour: South Africa.

Joined by friends like Jane McDonald and Ben Shephard, Barlow explored South Africa’s scenic wine country, discovering hidden gems along the way.

Recalling a memorable stop, he described a small café “literally in the middle of nowhere,” where locals eagerly snapped photos with him.

“It was crazy but brilliant! I don’t mind it at all,” he said of his unexpected fan encounters.

A Proud Dad Moment

In September, Barlow shared a rare photo of his son Daniel, proudly celebrating his fitness milestone.

The image captured the towering 6-foot-2 Daniel beside his 5-foot-7 father, as they gazed over the sea together.

Daniel’s recent accomplishment, completing the grueling Ironman triathlon—consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run—had his dad beaming with pride.

“We just couldn’t be prouder of our boy,” Barlow wrote, applauding Daniel’s dedication and hard work.

Supporting Emily’s Academic Journey

Barlow’s daughter Emily has also made her father proud.

After her university plans were postponed in 2020 due to COVID-19, she finally started a four-year program in 2022.

In an interview with Zoe Ball, Barlow spoke warmly about his daughter’s determination, noting how proud he was of her decision to pursue higher education.

Reflecting on Family Loss

In a rare moment of vulnerability, Barlow recently opened up about the loss of his fourth child, Poppy, who was stillborn in 2012.

Speaking candidly on The Imperfects podcast, he shared the ongoing challenges of coping with grief.

“I haven’t really found peace with it yet,” he admitted, describing the lingering anger and sorrow that he’s still trying to process.

He also touched on how he and Dawn have experienced grief differently, acknowledging the emotional complexities involved.

What Lies Ahead?

With his new travel series premiering and his children carving out their own paths, Gary Barlow’s next chapter seems filled with both professional excitement and personal growth.

Though his children may not follow his footsteps into music, Barlow’s dedication to his family and his career remains as strong as ever.
