Prince William wrapped up his visit to Cape Town this week, making a thoughtful gesture for his wife, Princess Kate.
While in the Mother City, he participated in the annual Earthshot Prize event, where the winners were announced during a ceremony on Wednesday evening.
Meeting Business Leaders on Ocean Sustainability
On Thursday, the Prince engaged with local business representatives at Portside Tower.
This roundtable brought together seaweed organizations to celebrate local innovations and discuss ways to secure a sustainable future for the oceans.
Prince William, 42, took the time to explore various displays, discussing how seaweed-based products could help tackle environmental challenges.
A Special Gift for Princess Kate
During the event, the Prince chose a meaningful gift for Princess Kate: a pair of earrings made from beach-cast kelp.
These unique earrings were crafted by South African brand SeaTree Emporium.
It was a touching gesture that reflected Prince William’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Continued Passion for Seaweed Initiatives
Prince William has previously shown interest in sustainable seaweed initiatives.
Earlier this year, he attended a seaweed innovation showcase at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he met with global businesses using seaweed to benefit the planet.
Thursday’s event was yet another example of how the Prince uses his platform to champion environmental innovation through his Earthshot Prize initiative.
Earthshot Prize 2024: Winners Announced
As part of his Earthshot Prize, Prince William awarded £1 million (about R22.5 million) to each of the five winners.
