At a memorable farewell dinner at the White House, President Joe Biden became visibly emotional as First Lady Jill Biden praised his decades of service.
Surrounded by Democrat supporters and donors, Biden wiped away tears while Jill reflected on his 40 years of dedication, including his recent tenure as president.
Jill’s Tribute to Joe
Jill took center stage to celebrate her husband’s extraordinary journey.
With heartfelt words, she acknowledged the challenges and triumphs of the past four years, particularly his leadership during difficult times.
“What I’ve watched you do for more than 40 years is extraordinary… Joe, what you’ve done the last four years is breathtaking,” she said, as Biden dabbed a tear from his cheek.
Raising a glass, Jill proudly toasted, “My husband and hero, Joe Biden,” before sharing a tender kiss with him on the podium.
Lightening the moment with humor, she quipped, “If you have a seat, please take it. Don’t jump in the pool!” as she welcomed guests to enjoy the evening.
A Legacy of Service
The evening was an opportunity for Biden to express his gratitude to those who helped him during his time in office.
Jill reflected on the journey that brought them to the White House, saying, “We began this journey to redeem the soul of the nation… I never could have gotten to where the White House has become without you.”
As Biden took the stage to address the crowd, he expressed his pride in his administration’s accomplishments.
“I can say with all my heart, the answer to that question [of whether we’ve left the country in better shape] is a resounding yes because of you,” he declared, gesturing to the cheering crowd.
The president spoke passionately about the challenges the nation overcame, from the pandemic to the insurrection on January 6, emphasizing that America is now better positioned to lead than ever before.
A Tribute to His Family
Biden didn’t hold back in expressing his admiration for his wife, calling Jill “the rock of our family” and one of the finest First Ladies in history.
In a touching moment, he referenced poet William Butler Yeats, saying, “Think where man’s glory most begins and ends, And say my glory was I had such friends.”
As Biden concluded his speech, he reiterated that serving as president had been “the honor of my life,” receiving a standing ovation from his supporters.
The Absence of Kamala Harris
Notably absent from the event was Vice President Kamala Harris, who is currently on a low-profile vacation in Hawaii with her husband, Doug Emhoff.
Harris, who was defeated in the 2024 presidential election by Donald Trump, has kept her distance from the public eye, choosing to rest after a grueling campaign.
She and Emhoff are expected to spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Hawaii, although it’s unclear whether other family members will join them.
Harris’ vacation has raised questions, but White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended her time off, stating that after working tirelessly for the past four years, Harris deserves a break.
“She has worked very hard… and her taking a couple of days to be with her family, good for her,” Jean-Pierre affirmed.
What’s Next?
As Biden prepares for his final months in office, all eyes are on the transition and what lies ahead after January 20, 2025.
With Kamala Harris out of the spotlight for now, the political landscape continues to shift as the nation looks toward the future.
