Florida authorities have released photographs documenting injuries sustained by New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith and a woman who accused him of assault, following the conclusion of an investigation that ended without criminal charges.
The images show Smith with visible scratches on his face and marks on his head, while the woman is seen with bruising on her left arm and a small cut between her thumb and index finger.
The photographs were made public after police officially closed the case, citing a lack of additional evidence needed to continue the investigation.
Incident Began at Smith’s Florida Residence
The investigation stemmed from an incident on June 21 at Smith’s home in Davie, Florida.
Officers responded after a woman, who identified herself as Smith’s former girlfriend, alleged that the quarterback physically assaulted her.
The woman also shared a video on Instagram accusing Smith of attacking her and claimed in a caption that the dispute stemmed from disagreements over caring for his son.
Although officers interviewed both individuals at the residence, no arrests were made and neither party was taken into custody.
Conflicting Accounts Presented to Investigators
According to police records, Smith disputed the woman’s characterization of their relationship.
He told investigators they were not romantically involved, describing her instead as someone who cared for his children despite acknowledging they had previously engaged in a casual sexual relationship.
Smith alleged that the woman entered his home without permission and attempted to leave with approximately $20 million worth of designer watches and jewelry.
He claimed he physically intervened when she tried to return to the house, saying he grabbed her and attempted to push her away after she allegedly tried to strike him and scratched his face.
Officers documented two scratches on Smith’s face and noted a knot on the back of his head during their examination.
Woman Describes Different Sequence of Events
The woman provided investigators with a sharply different version of events.
She said she entered the property after Smith threatened to report her to police for kidnapping if she did not return his son.
According to her statement, she placed the child in his room, collected a gift she had purchased for him, and headed toward her vehicle.
She alleged that Smith then confronted her outside, removed her laptop and $800 from her car, and shoved her to the ground.
The woman claimed she later took watches from Smith’s office with the intention of exchanging them for the return of her belongings.
She further alleged that Smith grabbed, struck, and choked her while trying to stop her from entering the residence.
Investigators observed the cut on her hand and bruising on her arm but reported finding no physical evidence consistent with strangulation.
Investigation Ends Without Further Action
Police attempted multiple times to obtain sworn statements from both Smith and the woman, but neither ultimately provided one.
With no additional testimony or evidence available, investigators concluded that they could not proceed further.
A supplemental case report stated that no additional investigative steps could reasonably be taken based on the available information and noted that any future action would depend on new evidence or information being presented.
Separate Traffic Incidents Add to Busy Offseason
The assault investigation comes during an offseason in which Smith has also been involved in multiple traffic-related incidents.
On July 6, the veteran quarterback was pulled over after allegedly driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Body-camera footage later surfaced showing Smith questioning an officer about why his vehicle’s license plate had been checked before the stop.
During another traffic stop, Smith was cited for displaying a license plate that was not assigned to the vehicle and for failing to carry his driver’s license while driving.
Veteran Quarterback Returns to New York
Smith is preparing for his second stint with the Jets after being acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders in a March trade that also included a seventh-round draft pick.
In exchange, the Raiders received a sixth-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Originally selected by New York in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the two-time Pro Bowler has since played for the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and Raiders.
Smith revived his career by earning the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award in 2022 and now returns to the franchise where his professional career began.
Summary
Florida police have released photographs showing injuries to both Geno Smith and the woman who accused him of assault after closing their investigation without filing charges.
Both parties presented conflicting accounts of the June 21 incident, and investigators said insufficient evidence prevented further action.
The case concludes amid an offseason that has also included multiple traffic citations for the Jets quarterback as he prepares for his return to New York.
