Detectives are investigating after a man crashed his car into a tree and died in North Beacon Hill late Wednesday night.

Just before 11:00 p.m., multiple 911 callers in the 1800 block of 15th Avenue South reported a driver had crashed a car into a tree. Police and Seattle Fire Department medics responded and found the 54-year-old male driver – the sole occupant of the car – deceased.

Detectives from SPD’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Detectives determined the driver had been traveling southbound on 15th Avenue South when he struck a utility pole on the west side of the street. He then crossed the centerline and crashed into a tree on the east side of the street.

TCIS Detectives believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash, and they continue to investigate the collision.
