…By Jack Sylva for TDPel Media. Orlando Bloom, who played Legolas in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, recently revealed that he was paid only $175,000 for his work in all three films.
Despite the franchise winning 17 Oscars and earning almost $3 billion at the global box office, Bloom’s salary was quite meagre.
The actor disclosed this information during an interview with Howard Stern.
He also mentioned that he was a “nobody” when he was originally cast for the role.
Bloom’s role in The Lord of the Rings was a major turning point in his career, which allowed him to secure other roles in Hollywood.
He even confessed that he would do the role again for half the money, saying that it was “the greatest gift of my life.”
Despite his modest salary, Bloom had a great time filming in New Zealand and made lasting friendships.
He described it as a “magical time” and said that they would occasionally have drinks on the weekends.
Although The Lord of the Rings trilogy ended in 2003, Bloom reprised his role as Legolas for The Hobbit’s spin-off trilogy, earning a massive $1 million for a two-minute cameo in the first film.
It is shocking to learn that Bloom received such a small amount for his work in The Lord of the Rings, especially given the franchise’s massive success.
However, it’s important to remember that he was not as well-known at the time and was cast as a relatively unknown actor.
Despite this, Bloom’s performance in The Lord of the Rings was exceptional and helped to launch his career in Hollywood.
It’s also heartwarming to hear that he had a great time filming and made lifelong friendships during the process.
