A Royal Plea for Peace
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has made a heartfelt appeal for an end to the tragic loss of life and property destruction resulting from escalating tensions and violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State.
Addressing the Media
In a gathering with journalists, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi beseeched both communities to cease hostilities over the ongoing land disputes.
As a revered figure with significant influence, he implored them to consider the consequences of their actions and strive for peace.
A Call for Unity
With the weight of his throne behind his plea, the Ooni of Ife spoke passionately, stating, “Ifon and Ilobu people, I appeal to you in the name of God, from the ancestral throne of Oduduwa.
We are one people, one race.
Let us halt the senseless bloodshed and the wanton destruction of property. I beg you with this throne, we came from this throne, so we are all the same.
I use this throne to beg you, please don’t let it escalate further; be your brother’s keeper. God bless you. Why are we killing ourselves and destroying each other’s property? Let us stop the killings!”
Recent Tragedy
The appeal comes in the wake of a tragic incident in which at least eight people, including an infant, lost their lives during the latest communal clash between Ifon and Ilobu communities.
The violence erupted in the early hours of Thursday, leaving the affected communities in sorrow.
Government’s Intervention
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, responded to the situation during a town hall meeting in Osogbo.
He announced that the disputed land had been taken over by the state government and issued a directive to prevent anyone from accessing the contested area.
His firm stance aims to restore order and prevent further conflict.
As the Ooni of Ife advocates for peace, the hope is that his plea will resonate with the communities involved, leading to a resolution of the disputes and an end to the tragic violence that has plagued the region.
