What started as an emergency hospital visit in Blackpool has now escalated into a major criminal case involving serious allegations of child abuse and murder.
A 13-month-old baby boy, Preston Davey, tragically died last summer after being brought to hospital unresponsive.
Now, almost a year later, two men are facing severe charges in connection with his death.
Two Men Face Serious Accusations
Jamie Varley, 36, from the Lancashire village of Grimsargh, has been officially charged with murdering baby Preston.
But that’s not all—he’s also facing multiple counts related to sexual offences and child cruelty.
The extent of the charges suggests a deeply disturbing case.
Joining him in court is 31-year-old John McGowan-Fazakerley, also from Grimsargh.
He’s been charged with allowing the death of a child, as well as child cruelty and sexual assault.
Both men are due to appear at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court, and Varley has already been remanded in custody.
Timeline of a Heartbreaking Case
The incident dates back to July 27, 2023.
At around 7:15 p.m., little Preston was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, unresponsive.
Despite efforts to save him, he died shortly after arriving.
Since then, a painstaking police investigation has unfolded behind the scenes.
CPS Responds to Public Concern
Suzanne Llewellyn, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North West, confirmed that the Crown Prosecution Service had been working closely with Lancashire Police to examine all the evidence and decide on charges.
She acknowledged how upsetting the case is, saying:
“We recognise the profoundly distressing nature of the alleged crimes.”
But she also urged the public and media to let justice run its course, emphasizing the defendants’ right to a fair trial.
A Sensitive Case Moving Forward
With such harrowing allegations and a child’s death at the center, the authorities have cautioned against speculation.
Any public commentary or social media posts that could interfere with the legal process are strongly discouraged.
The court proceedings are just beginning, and more updates will follow as the case develops.
