Child Serial Killer Nurse Lucy Letby Appeals Conviction
Lucy Letby, the nurse convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit in 2015 and 2016, has formally submitted an appeal bid at the Court of Appeal, according to officials.
Life Sentence and Absence at Sentencing
Letby, aged 33, received a whole life order as her sentence after being found guilty by jurors. However, she did not appear in court during her sentencing at Manchester Crown Court last month.
Application for Permission to Appeal
Court officials confirmed on Friday that they had received an application for permission to appeal from Letby’s legal team.
The Judicial Office also acknowledged the receipt of this application.
Independent Inquiry on the Horizon
The Department of Health had previously announced that an independent inquiry would be conducted into Letby’s case.
This inquiry will delve into the circumstances surrounding the deaths and incidents at the neonatal unit, including the handling of concerns raised by clinicians.
Further updates on this matter are expected in the future.
