…By Alan Peterson for TDPel Media. The Police Service Commission (PSC) in Nigeria has taken decisive steps to maintain discipline and integrity within the ranks of the police force.
During the PSC’s 21st plenary meeting, three senior police officers were dismissed due to cases of misconduct and abuse of office.
Furthermore, a Commissioner of Police (CP) was demoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), signifying a significant shift in the hierarchy of the force.
Dismissals, Demotion, and Retirement:
Under the leadership of retired Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, the PSC made these decisions during their plenary meeting held at the corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
Dr. Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police and the Chairman of the Commission, commended the members for their diligent attention to disciplinary matters.
Apart from the dismissals and demotion, the PSC also approved the compulsory retirement of an Assistant Commissioner of Police and instructed the officer to refund wrongly paid entitlements.
Additionally, the late Inspector Ifeanyi Oroke was posthumously promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in recognition of acts of gallantry.
Reinstatement and Punishments:
The PSC reinstated Inspector Augustina Oko, with the reinstatement to take effect from the date she was dismissed.
The Commission also handed out punishments, including severe reprimands for 16 officers, reprimands for 18 officers, and warning letters for two others.
These actions demonstrate the PSC’s commitment to maintaining discipline and addressing instances of misconduct within the police force.
Appointment of CP Adebola A. Hamzat:
CP Adebola A. Hamzat has assumed the role of Commissioner of Police in Oyo State.
Recognized for his investigative skills and intelligence expertise, CP Hamzat has previously served in various capacities within the police force.
His operational experience and core intelligence competencies have garnered commendations during his duty tours at United Nations missions in Kosovo and Timor Leste.

The recent actions taken by the PSC highlight their dedication to upholding discipline and integrity within the Nigerian Police Force.
By dismissing officers involved in misconduct and abuse of office, the PSC sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
