Owolewa’s Background and Role as a Shadow Representative

Owolewa was elected as the shadow representative of the United States House of Representatives for the District of Columbia in November 2020 and was subsequently re-elected.

He actively participated in the historic March 2019 Lobby Day, which played a significant role in gaining majority support for DC statehood in the House, marking a milestone in American history.

As a shadow congressperson, Owolewa holds an unpaid position and is responsible for lobbying for the statehood of the District of Columbia.

It is important to note that he is not a member of Congress.

Although the position was authorized by DC voters in 1982, it has not been approved by Congress to date.
