Passing of Alaba Lawson, a Respected Figure
Alaba Lawson, renowned as the Iyalode of Yorubaland and former National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, has passed away.
She was the founder of the well-known Alaba Lawson Group of Schools in Abeokuta, and her demise occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
Official Confirmation and Statement
The news of her passing was confirmed through a statement released by AbdulRahman Maku, the Executive Secretary of the Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture.
The statement expressed regret and read, “We regret to announce the demise of NACCIMA past President and ABEOCCIMA Matron and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, MFR, JP (Iyalode of Yorubaland), which occurred in the early hours of today, Saturday 28th of October, 2023.
Burial arrangement to be announced later by the family.
May God Almighty grant repose to the soul of Iyalode.”
A Life of Significance
Alaba Lawson was born on January 18, 1951, and throughout her life, she was a prominent Nigerian business magnate, entrepreneur, academician, and an advocate for women’s empowerment.
She held the esteemed position of Iyalode of Egbaland and served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ABEOCCIMA until her passing.
