Niger Delta Stakeholders Condemn Alleged Plot to Destabilize Rivers State

Concerns Over Political Turmoil in Rivers State

Sinister Plot to Destabilize Rivers State

Niger Delta stakeholders, traditional leaders, and former militant leaders, represented by the Citizens for the Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta (CSDND), have expressed deep apprehension regarding what they perceive as a sinister plot by certain politicians to destabilize Rivers State.

The focal point of this alleged conspiracy is the removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The group has vehemently condemned a series of events, including the purported suspension of the State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Edison Ehie, the initiation of an impeachment notice against Governor Fubura, and an alleged tear gas attack on the State Governor while he was on his way to assess a fire outbreak at the Assembly Complex.

Early Show of Political Strength

The CSDND has articulated its dismay, emphasizing that it is premature for political actors to engage in displays of power and political confrontations.

The group emphasized that Governor Fubara, who has been in office for only five months, should not be confronted with such a significant coup attempt against the people of Rivers State.

They have underlined that while Fubara’s emergence as governor was welcomed by most stakeholders from the region, the ongoing plot to destabilize the State House of Assembly and the executive branch in a battle for control is malevolent and warrants widespread condemnation.

Call for Intervention

In response to these developments, the group has called upon elders and political leaders from Rivers State, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesome Wike, to intervene and put an immediate halt to the crisis gripping the state.

They have also noted the suspected dynamite explosion at the State House of Assembly complex, the suspension of the Majority Leader, and the impeachment notice against Governor Fubara as clear indicators of desperation and enmity towards the people of Rivers State.

The CSDND has described these events as a threat to the infrastructure and political achievements made during Chief Nyesome Wike’s tenure as governor.

Appeal for Reconciliation

The statement made by the CSDND includes a call for progressive-minded individuals in Rivers State to persuade members of the State House of Assembly to refrain from participating in actions that could lead to chaos in the state.

It further underscores the need for Chief Nyesome Wike and Governor Fubara to promptly reconcile their differences, emphasizing the importance of putting the interests of the people and the region first.

Conclusion:

This statement by the CSDND reflects the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State and the concerns of various stakeholders regarding the stability and governance of the region.

The call for reconciliation and intervention underscores the urgency of addressing the current crisis to ensure the welfare of the state and its people.

It is evident that the political landscape in Rivers State is experiencing challenges that warrant careful consideration and swift resolution.
