Newcastle’s Paul Mitchell States Strong Desire to Keep Eddie Howe as Head Coach Despite Possible England Manager Role Opportunity

Paul Mitchell recently spoke about Eddie Howe’s future with Newcastle United, expressing his desire to keep Howe at the club.

However, he didn’t entirely rule out the possibility of Howe moving on to England’s national team.

Mitchell, who is the new sporting director at Newcastle, acknowledges Howe’s impressive work with the team.

As a result, Howe is considered a strong candidate to replace Gareth Southgate as England’s manager.

Mitchell noted that the speculation about Howe is a testament to the excellent job he has done over the past two and a half years, including his previous success at Bournemouth.

Acknowledging Interest

When asked whether Newcastle would block any approach from the Football Association, Mitchell said, “We want Eddie Howe as our head coach for as long as possible.

However, we understand that we’re on a journey, and we also acknowledge his quality and potential.”

Mitchell isn’t worried about the interest from other organizations.

In fact, he views it as a sign that Howe is doing an exceptional job.

He sees it as a positive reflection of Howe’s achievements and his contributions to the team.

Building a Relationship

Currently, with no formal approach from the FA and Lee Carsley serving as interim manager, Mitchell is focused on developing a strong working relationship with Howe at St James’ Park.

“It’s a working relationship that takes time to build,” Mitchell explained.

“Trust has to be developed.

I’ve enjoyed working with Eddie Howe, and I’m optimistic about what we can achieve together for Newcastle United.”

Mitchell, who took on his role in July, praised Howe’s coaching skills, saying he is very impressed with Howe’s performance on the field.

He’s excited about the potential of combining his own expertise with Howe’s capabilities.

Role in Managerial Decisions

Mitchell was also asked about his role in managerial decisions.

He confirmed that while he will be involved and have an opinion, the final decision will depend on input from multiple people within the club’s structure.

“I’m involved and I do have an opinion,” Mitchell said.

“But in our current setup, decisions about hiring or firing managers will be based on the collective opinions of several people.”

So, what’s next for Newcastle United and Eddie Howe? It remains to be seen, but Mitchell’s focus is on building a successful future together.
