A quiet Missouri community has been left in shock following the death of 16-year-old Gabbriana “Gabby” Boyster, whose body was discovered inside her family’s home near Hillsboro over the weekend.
The heartbreaking discovery was made by Gabby’s mother, Candy G’Sell, after she returned home Saturday afternoon.
Authorities said the teenager had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, with investigators believing the shooting occurred the previous evening.
Mother Describes the Devastating Moment
According to G’Sell, she left home Friday night after Gabby told her she planned to stay in for the evening. Nothing prepared her for what she would encounter when she returned the next day.
Recalling the painful moment, G’Sell said she found her daughter sitting upright but lifeless inside the home.
Struggling to come to terms with the tragedy, she said no parent should ever have to bury their own child.
She also urged young people to understand the dangers of firearms, saying guns are not toys and should never be treated lightly.
Friends Were Allegedly Present Before the Shooting
Investigators believe three teenagers, whom G’Sell described as Gabby’s friends, were at the home when the shooting took place Friday night.
Authorities allege Gabby’s body remained inside the residence for several hours before her mother returned home and discovered her on Saturday.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has since confirmed that three juvenile suspects have been charged in connection with the case.
Because they are minors, their identities have not been released.
Charges Filed Against Juvenile Suspects
Officials said all three teenagers face charges of abandonment of a corpse.
One of the juveniles is also charged with involuntary manslaughter, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
That suspect remains in custody, while the other two have been released as legal proceedings continue.
Investigators have not disclosed who owned the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Family Remembers Gabby as Kind and Loving
Loved ones have described Gabby as a caring teenager whose warm personality touched everyone around her.
Her mother said Gabby was the youngest of her three children and deeply valued her family and friendships.
Relatives say she had a bright future ahead of her and was looking forward to beginning her junior year at Hillsboro High School.
Her sister, Hailey McLain, remembered Gabby as the “sweetest, kindest soul” and praised her for being an incredible aunt to younger family members.
Community Pays Tribute to Teenager
A fundraiser created to support Gabby’s family paints the picture of a young woman known for her contagious laughter, generous heart and ability to make others feel welcome.
Family members also shared emotional tributes on social media, saying Gabby’s life was cut tragically short and that she deserved so much more.
School officials extended condolences to students and staff, with Superintendent Dr. Jon Isaacson pledging counseling and support services for everyone affected by the tragedy.
Calls for Justice Grow Across Hillsboro
As news of Gabby’s death spread, friends gathered outside the Jefferson County Missouri Circuit Court and the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center, carrying signs demanding justice under the hashtag #JusticeForGabby.
Community members described the demonstrations as heartbreaking, with many expressing sadness at seeing teenagers mourning the loss of one of their classmates.
Gabby’s mother said her daughter had her entire life ahead of her and hopes the tragedy serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from irresponsible firearm use.
