Anne Hathaway has shared new details about her third pregnancy, admitting that although she and her husband, Adam Shulman, intentionally tried for another child, they never expected it to happen so easily.
The Oscar-winning actress, 43, made the candid confession during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where she described the pregnancy as a “buzzer beater” and said both she and her husband were genuinely surprised by the outcome.
“We knew what we were doing, but we were so shocked it worked,” Hathaway laughed.
“We knew, but we were still amazed it happened this way.”
Her comments come weeks after she delighted fans by announcing that she is expecting her third child, with many admirers praising the news given her age.
Growing Family Brings More Joy for Hathaway and Shulman
Hathaway and Shulman, who married in 2012, are already parents to two sons—Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.
The couple has largely kept their family life private, making the pregnancy announcement an exciting surprise for fans.
The actress revealed the news through a heartfelt Instagram video in which she cradled her growing baby bump while Barbara Lewis’ classic song Baby, I’m Yours played in the background.
Since then, Hathaway has proudly showcased her pregnancy while attending promotional events for her latest film, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
Actress Reflects on Feeling Fortunate to Become a Mother
Earlier this year, Hathaway spoke openly about motherhood while accepting People’s “Most Beautiful Woman” recognition, expressing gratitude for her parenting journey.
She acknowledged that many people struggle to have children and said she never takes her own experience for granted.
“I know not everyone who wants to be a parent gets that opportunity,” she explained at the time.
“I’m incredibly fortunate. Things went well for me twice before, and I feel very lucky.”
Those reflections have taken on even greater meaning now as she prepares to welcome another baby into the family.
Husband Adam Shulman Receives Heartfelt Praise
Hathaway also credited her husband for being an unwavering source of support throughout their marriage and growing family.
She described Shulman as someone who consistently steps up during life’s biggest moments, saying he has been an ideal partner both personally and professionally.
According to Hathaway, the past year has only strengthened her appreciation for him, adding that he “holds it down” and continues to make family life easier.
She called him her “dream partner,” emphasizing how grateful she is to be raising their children together.
Busy Career Continues Alongside Pregnancy
While preparing for motherhood once again, Hathaway has also enjoyed one of the busiest periods of her acting career.
She recently returned as Andy Sachs in the highly anticipated The Devil Wears Prada 2, reuniting with original stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.
The sequel has generated significant attention since its release in May.
At the same time, Hathaway has been traveling internationally to promote Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of The Odyssey, where she portrays Penelope, the loyal wife of Odysseus.
The Odyssey Builds Buzz Ahead of Global Release
Nolan’s adaptation of the legendary Greek epic has become one of Hollywood’s most anticipated releases, featuring Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as their son, Telemachus.
The star-studded cast also includes Zendaya as Athena, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Samantha Morton as Circe, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus and Benny Safdie as Agamemnon.
Following its world premiere in London, the film is scheduled to open in cinemas across the United States and the United Kingdom on July 17.
Casting Choices Spark Debate Despite Positive Reviews
Although early reactions from critics have been overwhelmingly positive, The Odyssey has also generated online debate over several casting decisions.
Some critics questioned the inclusion of Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and rapper Travis Scott in a retelling of a classic Greek story, with Scott’s casting drawing particular attention because it marks one of his first major acting roles.
The film has also faced discussion over the casting of actor Elliot Page as Elpenor, a member of Odysseus’ crew, with the decision prompting mixed reactions across social media.
Despite the online controversy, excitement surrounding Nolan’s latest blockbuster remains high, while Hathaway continues to balance a flourishing film career with the anticipation of welcoming another addition to her family.
