Mbuyiseni Ndlozi announces his departure from the EFF after unexpected suspension in South Africa

In a move that took many by surprise, former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP and spokesperson Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has opened up about his decision to leave the party.

During an interview with SABC on Sunday night, the 39-year-old revealed the reasons behind his exit and his future plans beyond party politics.

His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in South African politics, where he played a key role in the EFF’s growth and public messaging.

However, as Ndlozi made clear, his journey is far from over.

The Suspension That Led to His Exit

Ndlozi shared that his exit from the EFF wasn’t entirely voluntary—he was suspended about six weeks before the party’s national conference.

According to him, the suspension didn’t follow the EFF’s official code of conduct or constitutional procedures.

“They claimed that I was part of an infiltration strategy by the MK Party and also that I knew about Floyd Shivambu’s departure,” Ndlozi explained.

He admitted that he was aware of Shivambu’s move to the Jacob Zuma-led MK Party but chose not to inform EFF leader Julius Malema.

While this may have fueled suspicions within the party, Ndlozi insists that his departure is not about shifting political allegiances but rather about pursuing a different path.

Leaving Party Politics for a Greater Cause

Ndlozi made it clear that he is stepping away from party politics entirely.

“I’ve decided to completely leave party politics.

I believe I’ve made my contribution in that space,” he said.

“South Africa is not a one-party state, and political parties are not the only way to make a meaningful impact on society.”

After resigning from parliament last month, speculation swirled about whether he would follow in Shivambu’s footsteps and join the MK Party.

However, Ndlozi firmly denied any such plans. Instead, he is shifting his focus toward academia, public discourse, and the role of civil society in South Africa’s ongoing struggles.

A New Focus on Civil Society and Social Change

Ndlozi believes that civil society has been neglected in recent years and sees it as a vital space for change.

“I’m passionate about improving the level of discourse in this country.

But more importantly, I believe the terrain of struggle that has been overlooked for too long is civil society,” he said.

He pointed to the work done by AfriForum—a controversial organization advocating for Afrikaner interests—as an example of how civic movements can influence public life.

“It’s time someone did for this country what AfriForum is doing for Afrikaners,” Ndlozi stated, suggesting that grassroots activism could be a more effective way to champion the needs of ordinary South Africans.

Will Ndlozi Ever Return to Politics?

With his decision to step away from party politics, many are wondering whether Ndlozi will ever make a comeback. For now, he seems committed to his new path.
