Luis Diaz had a night of highs and lows on Tuesday as Bayern Munich faced Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League action at the Parc des Princes.
The Colombian forward showcased both his brilliance and his fiery edge, leaving fans talking about every moment of his 45 minutes on the pitch.
Diaz Hits the Ground Running in Bavaria
After a summer move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich worth £70 million, Diaz has quickly made his mark in the Bundesliga.
In just 15 appearances across all competitions, the 28-year-old has already netted eight goals and provided five assists, proving he can thrive in Germany as he did on Merseyside.
Against PSG, Diaz wasted no time announcing himself.
Just four minutes in, he capitalized on a clumsy first save from goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, calmly slotting the ball into the net and sending Bayern fans into celebration.
Less than half an hour later, he doubled Bayern’s advantage, giving the visitors a serious edge in the French capital.
A Moment of Madness Changes the Game
However, the first half ended with a dramatic turn.
As Achraf Hakimi raced down the wing, Diaz launched into a full-throttle, feet-first challenge that left the PSG star in obvious pain, trapping his foot beneath his body.
The Moroccan defender, who had turned 27 that day, was substituted off in tears, aided by club medics.
Bayern players were immediately on edge, surrounding referee Maurizio Mariani in an attempt to keep Diaz on the pitch.
Joshua Kimmich argued passionately, while goalkeeper Manuel Neuer joined in, but VAR intervention left no doubt.
Diaz received a straight red card, reducing Bayern to 10 men.
A Rare Champions League Record
Diaz’s night entered the history books for a curious reason: he became only the second player in Champions League history to be sent off after scoring twice in the same match.
The first was Antoine Griezmann for Atletico Madrid in 2021.
Despite being a man down, Bayern held onto their lead, even after PSG pulled one back through Joao Neves, ultimately claiming a hard-fought victory that places them at the top of their Champions League group.
Bayern Maintain European Dominance
This win continues Bayern’s dominant start in Europe this season.
Before the PSG clash, they had already secured wins against Club Brugge (4-0), Pafos (5-1), and Premier League rivals Chelsea (3-1).
With an unbeaten record and their attacking trio firing on all cylinders, the German giants are sending a strong message to the rest of Europe: they are serious contenders for the Champions League crown.
