Residents in parts of Limpopo could experience some relief from the recent heat this weekend as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) reaches the final scheduled day of its heatwave advisory on Friday, 23 October.

The weather service has warned of persistently high temperatures in parts of the province’s Western Bushveld. However, forecasts indicate that some areas could experience cooler conditions on Saturday before temperatures rise again on Sunday.

The current advisory is due to remain in effect until 23:59 on Friday.

Western Bushveld Areas Remain Under Heat Warning

The heatwave advisory covers several areas in Limpopo, including Lephalale, Thabazimbi, Bela-Bela, Mokopane, Mookgopong and Vaalwater.

Alldays and Moletji are also among the areas identified in the heat-related advisory.

For Friday, SAWS forecasts partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures expected to be hot to very hot across the province. Isolated light showers and rain are possible along the escarpment.

Polokwane Could See Temperatures Fall on Saturday

Forecasts suggest that temperatures could ease in some parts of Limpopo on Saturday, 24 October.

In Polokwane, the mercury is expected to drop to around 26°C, compared with approximately 28°C forecast for Friday.

The cooler conditions may not last long, however, as temperatures in the city are expected to climb to around 30°C on Sunday.

The forecast also indicates that the temperature changes will not be uniform across the province, meaning some residents may experience less relief than others.

Hot Weather Could Continue After Advisory Expires

Although the current heatwave advisory is scheduled to expire on Friday night, its conclusion does not necessarily mean that high temperatures will end across Limpopo.

Some areas may continue to experience hot weather over the weekend, depending on local conditions.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the South African Weather Service for any changes to the forecast or an extension of the advisory beyond its scheduled expiry.
