Two newly constructed police stations in Limpopo’s Waterberg District will be officially opened on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, as part of efforts to improve police services and strengthen community safety.
Deputy Minister of Police Dr Polly Boshielo will lead the proceedings alongside senior South African Police Service (SAPS) officials, including National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola and Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers.
The facilities scheduled to open are the Bakenberg and Villa Nora police stations.
Initiative Targets Rural and Underserved Communities
According to SAPS, the new facilities form part of a joint initiative aimed at improving service delivery, particularly in rural areas and communities that have previously had limited access to services.
In a statement issued on Monday, 19 October, the police service said the initiative was intended to strengthen safety and security for residents across the district.
Ministerial Imbizo to Bring Police and Communities Together
The opening ceremonies will coincide with a Ministerial Crime Prevention Community Imbizo led by Boshielo and senior police officials.
The engagement will bring together SAPS leadership, traditional leaders, community members and other key stakeholders to discuss crime prevention and identify ways to improve cooperation between law enforcement and local communities.
SAPS said the gathering would provide an opportunity for constructive engagement on challenges affecting residents and collaborative efforts to address crime.
Gender-Based Violence and Stock Theft Among Key Issues
The community engagement will focus on several crime-related concerns affecting the Waterberg District.
SAPS identified gender-based violence and femicide, stock theft and other prevalent crimes as key areas for discussion during the Imbizo.
The initiative is intended to support cooperation between police and communities in addressing these challenges while improving the delivery of policing services across the district.
