The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the rights of consumers in the State are protected from the sale of hazardous products and all forms of unfair trade practices.
The General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo Esq. made this known while featuring as a guest on “Morning Delight”, a programme aired on Lagos Television.
He said that LASCOPA was established out of the need to address a series of public complaints ranging from injurious expired products as well as unfair trade practices usually perpetrated by manufacturers and marketers of goods and services.
According to him, the protection of the rights of consumers since the establishment of LASCOPA has taken the centre stage because the State government realised the need to treat consumers as kings who have rights under the law to be protected.
Solebo also stated that part of the measures taken to boost access to improved consumer-rights protection services is its consumer-rights campaign to the grassroots.
In his words: “Additional offices have been established at Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Bariga LCDA and Badagry Local Government to further give residents equal access and opportunity to exercise their rights as consumers of products and services”.
He disclosed that the Agency has been able to assist different categories of aggrieved parties and individuals who sought the assistance of LASCOPA to help recover their money or products from manufacturers of goods and services in the State.
While stating that the Agency is currently tackling the issue of online transactions where items ordered or delivered do not match their request, the General Manager gave an assurance that those involved in unfair trade practices will face the full wrath of the law.
