President Cyril Ramaphosa has conveyed South Africa’s condolences to Zimbabwe following a devastating ferry disaster on Lake Kariba that has reportedly claimed 44 lives.
In a message issued on Thursday, Ramaphosa said South Africa stood alongside the people of Zimbabwe as the country dealt with the aftermath of the tragedy.

The South African president expressed sympathy to the families of those who died, as well as survivors of the accident and relatives still waiting for information about loved ones.
Ramaphosa also wished the survivors a speedy recovery and acknowledged the emergency personnel involved in the response.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa had also expressed his condolences to the families affected by the disaster.
Mnangagwa described the incident as a major tragedy and said it had exposed serious weaknesses in the country’s maritime capabilities.
He called on government agencies to urgently identify and address the shortcomings revealed by the accident.

The Zimbabwean president stressed the need for authorities to implement remedial measures and draw lessons from the disaster.
