Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli has suffered another injury setback, casting fresh doubt over his availability after making his return to the starting line-up against AmaZulu.
The 30-year-old began Wednesday night’s league encounter at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium, but his comeback lasted only 53 minutes.
Pirates eventually had to settle for a 1-1 draw in Durban.
Midfielder Forced Off After Challenge
Nduli was substituted after sustaining an injury following a challenge from AmaZulu midfielder Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya.
The incident sparked debate over whether the challenge warranted a straight red card, although Ngwenya remained on the field.
Pirates replaced Nduli with newly signed midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi, who partnered Camren Dansin for the remainder of the contest.
Another Difficult Injury Chapter
The latest setback is particularly frustrating for Nduli after he spent around five months recovering from a serious injury sustained last season.
The midfielder was injured against Golden Arrows in November 2025 after suffering damage to his Achilles tendon and ankle.
The severity of the injury ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign and forced him to watch his teammates from the sidelines.
Pirates have yet to provide clarity on the nature or expected recovery period of his latest injury, meaning it remains uncertain how long he could be unavailable.
Nduli Had Become an Important Figure
Before his previous injury, Nduli had established himself as a regular presence in the Pirates midfield during the early stages of Abdeslam Ouaddou’s tenure.
He made 10 league appearances before his injury last season and had already featured 18 times across competitions for the Buccaneers when he was sidelined.
His latest setback therefore represents another interruption to a player who had been working his way back into contention.
Pirates Face Another Selection Concern
The timing of the injury will be a concern for Pirates as they continue their league campaign.
Nduli’s absence could increase the pressure on the club’s midfield options, with Mokobodi among the players now likely to receive greater opportunities.
For now, Pirates will have to wait for further medical assessments before determining the full extent of Nduli’s latest injury and when he could return to action.
