Kaizer Chiefs are on the brink of a fresh start as they prep for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.
This Saturday, they’ll be putting their skills to the test against a team from Qatar.
The Amakhosi have been stationed in Istanbul, Turkey, for the past two weeks, getting ready under the guidance of their new head coach, Nasreddine Nabi.
The team is determined to break their nine-year PSL drought and return to their former glory after some challenging seasons.
Unfortunately, not all is smooth sailing. They’ve had to contend with a slew of injuries.
Key players like Tebogo Potsane, Dillan Solomons, Mduduzi Mdantsane, and George Matlou were left behind due to their injuries.
Additionally, Edmilson Dove and Bongani Sam suffered injuries during their training in Turkey, adding to Nabi’s pre-season worries.
Dove and Sam have since returned to South Africa for further medical evaluation.
Upcoming Match Against Al Shahaniya
Despite these setbacks, Chiefs are moving forward with their preparations.
They’re scheduled to face Qatar’s Al Shahaniya SC in their third friendly match in Istanbul on Saturday, July 20.
Al Shahaniya recently earned promotion to the Qatar Stars League, making this a promising test for the team.
Transfer Updates
On the transfer front, Chiefs have managed to secure a couple of new faces.
They’ve brought in left-back Sam and, more recently, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy.
Ntwari, the second signing of the season after Sam, will be competing for a spot between the posts with Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Peterson, and Bontle Molefe.
However, visa issues have prevented Ntwari from joining the team in Turkey, but hopes are high for a strong performance in the upcoming season.
Looking Ahead
As the season approaches, Kaizer Chiefs are hoping these pre-season matches and new signings will pave the way for a successful campaign in the 2024/25 DStv Premiership.
