Inter Milan defender John Stones has admitted exceeding the speed limit while driving his £150,000 Range Rover in Cheshire.
The 32-year-old England international was caught by police near his home in Knutsford in May while driving his customised ‘Urban’ Range Rover.
Stones appeared before magistrates in Warrington after being accused of travelling above the 30mph limit on a restricted road.
Four Penalty Points Added to His Driving Record
Stones pleaded guilty to the speeding offence and was handed four penalty points.
Magistrates also imposed a £666 fine, while the footballer was ordered to pay a further £386 in costs and a victim surcharge.
The incident occurred the day before Manchester City secured a 3-0 victory over Brentford during the previous season.
A Decade at Manchester City Comes to an End
The driving offence comes after a major change in Stones’ club career.
Having spent a decade at Manchester City, the defender moved to Inter Milan in the summer after agreeing a two-year contract with the Italian club.
During his time at the Etihad, Stones was part of a highly successful City side that won six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and five League Cups.
Before joining City, he played for Barnsley and Everton.
Stones Made Immediate Impact at Inter
The experienced centre-back made a promising start to life in Italy, scoring the winning goal on his Inter debut.
His progress was subsequently interrupted by another injury, however, with a thigh problem adding to a series of fitness issues that have affected his career in recent seasons.
Stones’ injury history has continued to be a concern as he attempts to establish himself at his new club and maintain his international career.
England Future Remains Open
Despite his latest fitness setback, Stones has made clear that he does not intend to retire from international football.
The defender was not included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the current international break because of his injury.
He remains regarded as an experienced option by the England manager, leaving open the possibility of Stones continuing his international career ahead of the 2028 European Championship, which will be hosted in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
World Cup Experience Adds to International Record
Stones has been a significant part of England’s recent international campaigns and was involved in the squad that reached the latter stages of the World Cup.
He started England’s quarter-final victory over Norway before featuring in the semi-final defeat against Argentina.
With his club career now entering a new chapter at Inter and his latest injury keeping him temporarily out of the England setup, Stones faces another period of recovery as he looks to return to full fitness.
