Johannesburg Police Crack Down on Crime: Three Suspects Arrested for Optical Fiber Theft and Murder

…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. In Johannesburg South, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers successfully apprehended three male suspects involved in the theft of Optical Fiber in Gillview.

Patrol Officers Spot Suspicious Activity

During their regular crime prevention patrols along Rifle Range and Side Road on Thursday morning, 01 June 2023, JMPD officers noticed a suspicious male near a white Renault Kwid.

Approaching the vehicle to investigate, they discovered five males hiding behind it, along with Optical Fiber strewn on the ground.

Arrest Made and Tools Seized

Two of the suspects managed to escape the scene, but the officers were able to apprehend the remaining three.

Upon searching the suspects, an air gun was found in the possession of one of them.

Further inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of digging tools, a steel saw, and two spare saw blades for cutting.

Detainment and Investigation

The arrested suspects were taken to Booysens SAPS for detention, where a case docket was opened for further investigation.

Additionally, the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized and impounded at the SAPS Aeroton pound.

Murder Suspects Apprehended

In a separate operation, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit arrested three male suspects wanted for murder in Riverlea and South Hills, Johannesburg.

Shooting Incident Investigation

Acting on information received, officers conducted an operation on Tuesday, 30 May 2023, targeting suspects allegedly involved in a shooting incident that resulted in the loss of two lives and one person critically injured on Friday, 26 May 2023, in Riverlea.

The suspects were known for terrorizing the community, and two of them were wanted for multiple murders.

 Successful Arrest and Seizure

Upon arriving at the given location, the officers swiftly identified and apprehended two male suspects.

During a search, the suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and 20 mandrax tablets.

They were arrested in connection with the Langlaagte SAPS case.

Following further information, the officers proceeded to another location in South Hills, where they apprehended a third suspect believed to be involved in the shootings in Riverlea, South Hills, and Fairland.
