Scania has established Venture & New Business China (VNBC), a new platform designed to identify, develop and test business opportunities in the Chinese market through strategic partnerships, customer collaborations and new ventures.
The Sweden-based transport solutions provider said the initiative forms part of its long-term development strategy in China and will support the growth of Scania Group China.
Kelly Fu Appointed Regional Lead
Scania has appointed Kelly Fu as Regional Lead for China Venture & New Business.
She will oversee the initiative as it explores opportunities to develop new business models and partnerships in the country’s transport sector.
Fu brings experience across investment banking, digital mobility, commercial-vehicle technology and business development.
She spent six years at DiDi, where she served in several roles, including General Manager of its Beijing Office.
She also worked in investment at G7, contributing to the company’s merger with E6.
More recently, Fu has focused on startups and emerging technologies in heavy-duty battery-electric and hydrogen-powered transport.
Electrification and Autonomous Transport Among Initial Priorities
VNBC will initially concentrate on energy transition and autonomous transport, two areas identified as having considerable potential to transform heavy transport.
The platform will work to establish partnerships across the transport ecosystem and investigate business models that could support the commercial introduction of future technologies.
Through these collaborations, Scania intends to test technologies and business models more quickly while developing the expertise and practical experience needed to shape future transport solutions.
Existing Chinese Operations to Support Development
The new platform will build on Scania’s expanding presence and capabilities in China, including its Scania and NEXT ERA commercial offerings and its local research and development, procurement and production operations.
These resources provide a foundation for developing transport solutions closer to Chinese customers and responding to opportunities in the local market.
The Nantong and Rugao region, home to Scania’s third industrial production hub, will play an important role in testing and piloting new solutions alongside customers and partners.
Collaboration With Local Governments and Industry Partners
Beyond its work with customers and commercial partners, VNBC will engage with local governments and ecosystem participants across China to identify potential areas of cooperation.
The initiative will use these relationships to explore new technologies, partnerships and business opportunities as Scania continues developing its presence in China’s electrified and autonomous transport ecosystem.
