…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. Jibrin Ismail Falgore, a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has been elected as the new speaker for the 10th House of Assembly in Kano State.
This development occurred when lawmakers cast their votes, and Falgore emerged as the winner unopposed.
Representing the Rogo constituency, Falgore received his nomination from Lawal Hussaini (Dala/NNPP), seconded by Musa Ali Kachako (Takai) from the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
Additionally, Muhammad Bello Butubutu, also from NNPP, became the deputy speaker, representing the Rimingado/Tofa state constituency.
His nomination was put forth by Zubairu Hamza Masu (Sumaila/NNPP) and seconded by a member from the opposition APC party.
NNPP Holds Majority in Kano State Assembly
After the 2023 general elections, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) emerged as the majority party in the Kano State assembly.
With 26 members-elect, they surpassed the All Progressives Congress (APC), which had 14 members-elect.
In total, the assembly consists of 40 members.
Honourable Tajudeen Abbas Becomes Speaker of the House of Representatives
In a separate development, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas from Kaduna State has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 10th National Assembly.
He emerged as the winner after a voice voting exercise conducted by the Clerk on the house floor.
Abbas, who was the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), secured victory, surpassing former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase and Sani Jaji.
He received over 181 votes, surpassing the required threshold.
This election took place following the conclusion of the Senate’s election, which saw Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, chosen.
