Indiana Mother Panics as Repo Man Drives Off with Car and Newborn Outside Daycare

In Evansville, Indiana, Sabriya Miles experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. While dropping off her four-year-old son at daycare, she left her seven-day-old baby, Adrian, in the backseat of her gold Chevy.

Within moments, she saw a stranger get into her car and speed away, triggering a wave of panic and fear that her newborn had been kidnapped.

Immediate Panic and Desperate Chase

Miles, along with another mother, immediately chased the vehicle down the street. “It was two seconds,” Miles insisted, emphasizing how quickly the terrifying event unfolded.

Despite their frantic efforts, they could not catch the car. Miles, who has two other children, was left in a state of utter despair, fearing the worst for her newborn.

The Shocking Twist

The situation took a surprising turn when it was revealed that the car was not stolen but repossessed. The repo man, completely unaware of the infant inside, was simply doing his job.

Miles, however, had received no prior warning that her car would be repossessed, adding to the shock and confusion of the incident.

Police Involvement and Resolution

After driving just a few miles, the repo man realized there was a baby in the car and immediately contacted the police.

The authorities quickly retrieved the child, bringing an end to the horrifying ordeal. Evansville police later clarified that no charges would be filed against either the repo man or Miles, stating there was no negligence or kidnapping involved.

Community Support and Recovery

In the aftermath, local lawyer and daycare owner Tanisha Carothers felt compelled to help. She set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a new vehicle for Miles and new car seats for her children.

The campaign quickly raised over $8,000, demonstrating the community’s support and empathy for Miles’ situation.

“With the right resources, with the right community support, we have the ability to completely change the trajectory of a family’s life,” Carothers said.

A Lesson Learned

Reflecting on the incident, Miles expressed her emotional turmoil and the lesson she learned. “I’ve been a mom since I was 15 years old, and this is the first time that anything like this has ever happened to me,” she shared, tears in her eyes. “I won’t let it happen again.”

Despite the scare, she remained determined to protect her children and grateful for the community’s support.

Moving Forward

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unexpected challenges that can arise in daily life. It underscores the importance of community support and the resilience of individuals in the face of adversity.

For Miles, the support from her community not only helped her recover from the ordeal but also restored her faith in the kindness and solidarity of those around her.

As she moves forward, Miles remains focused on ensuring her family’s safety and well-being, holding onto the lessons learned from this harrowing experience.

The outpouring of support she received is a testament to the power of community and the difference it can make in times of crisis.
