Governor Okezie Ikpeazu hosted CP Mustafa Mohammed Bala, the new Commissioner of Police assigned to oversee the Abia State Police Command.
Janet Agbede, the outgoing Commissioner and new Assistant Inspector General of Police, was promoted and transferred out of the state, and accompanied the incoming Commissioner of Police.
Governor Ikpeazu greeted the new CP and charged him with building on his predecessor’s successes.
The Governor informed the incoming Commissioner that his administration will assist him in achieving his goals of protecting the lives and property of Abia State’s citizens.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu used the opportunity to publicly congratulate AIG Janet Agbede on her promotion, adding that her elevation was a clear indication of her hard work and dedication as Commissioner of Police, and wished her success in her new assignment.
Abia State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria today, according to the governor, who attributes this to God’s mercy, the proactive security architecture in the state, and the good coordination between the various security agencies in the state.
He advised the new Police Chief to take advantage of the existing platforms in order to maintain and improve the status quo.
In her speech, the former State Police Commissioner, AIG Janet Agbede, praised the Governor for his persistent support of the State Police Command, which contributed to the results achieved by the State Police.
He also urged the Governor to provide the same level of assistance to the next Commissioner.
CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, the new Abia State Commissioner of Police, thanked the Governor for receiving him and informed him that, having taken duties at the Command Headquarters, he had come to pay the traditional respect to the Governor.
He told the Governor that he would build upon the foundations built by his predecessor and ensure the safety of the citizens of Abia State.
CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, psc, is from Katsina State’s Sandamu Local Government Area. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Bayero University, Kano.
In addition, he holds a Master of Law and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. In 1992, he enlisted in the Nigeria Police as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent.
He was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri, Imo State, prior to his recent appointment as the Abia State Commissioner of Police.
He had also served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Zone 3, Yola, and the State Command of Kaduna.
In addition, he was the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Zone 6, CID in Calabar, Cross River State.
Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahiwe, and Commissioner for Homeland Security, Hon. Sopuruchi Bekee, participated in the event, while the new Commissioner’s wife and children, Deputy Commissioner in the State Command Umuahia, Area Commander Aba, Commander MOPOL 55 Osisioma, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, and Divisional Police Officer, Eastern Ngwa Division, Umuobiakwa, accompanied him on his visit.
