An alleged Hamas military commander involved in the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel has been killed, while Israeli security forces are investigating a separate violent confrontation near Khirbet Abu Falah that left a female journalist injured.

The incidents were reported in separate statements published by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which also outlined security operations and an investigation into the confrontation involving foreign media personnel.

Hamas Commander Accused of Renewing Attacks During Ceasefire

Maher Walid Omar al-Husseini, identified as a commander of a Nukhba cell within Hamas’ military wing, was killed after allegedly advancing attacks against Israeli civilians and military personnel.

He was accused of infiltrating the Re’im military base in Israel during the October 7 massacre and subsequently attempting to rebuild Hamas’ military capabilities.

The Israeli military said his activities violated the ceasefire and described his killing as an operation intended to eliminate the threat he posed.

Female Journalist Injured in Confrontation Near Khirbet Abu Falah

Israeli military and Border Police personnel were deployed to an area near Khirbet Abu Falah following reports of a violent confrontation.

Foreign media personnel were present when the incident occurred, and a female journalist sustained injuries during the confrontation. The circumstances surrounding her injury remain under investigation.

Security forces arriving at the scene used riot-dispersal measures to break up the confrontation, according to the military’s account.

Israeli Soldiers Fire Warning Shots During Separate Incident

At another location where a confrontation occurred, Israeli soldiers initially fired warning shots into the air before shooting towards a suspect who allegedly ran towards them while carrying a sharp object.

The suspect was described as posing a threat to the soldiers. The confrontation was subsequently dispersed.

Israeli police officers and forensic investigators from the Judea and Samaria District are expected to enter the area alongside military security personnel to collect evidence and findings and obtain witness statements.

Investigation Launched Into Violence Involving Civilians

The circumstances of the confrontation, including the injury sustained by the female journalist, are to be examined as part of the investigation.

The Israeli military condemned the incident and called for coordinated action by the relevant authorities to address violence against civilians.

It also warned that attempts to provoke tensions between different populations could undermine security in the area.
