Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Gift Motupa has recently shared why he chose to prioritize his mental health following his unexpected exit from Baroka FC.
After leaving Mamelodi Sundowns in January, Motupa rejoined Baroka in February but struggled for game time. This led to his decision to part ways with Baroka.
Before his departure from Sundowns, Motupa was not training with the main team but with Sundowns’ feeder side, M Tigers, which competes in the SAFA Gauteng ABC Motsepe League.
Just two days after ending his time with Sundowns, Motupa was seen at SuperSport United, a rival team. However, they decided not to sign him.
Motupa has now joined Betway Premiership newcomers Magesi FC for the upcoming season.
Gift Motupa on Prioritizing Mental Health
Motupa explained that feeling overwhelmed led him to take a break and focus on his mental well-being. He shared with FARPost, “I made the decision to take a step back and address my mental health.
I really needed some time off to get my mind right and start my football career anew.”
He continued, “I spoke with the chairman and said, ‘I need about three months to clear my mind and get back on track.’ I believe it was the right decision for me.
Now, I’m in a much better place.”
Excitement About Returning to the Betway Premiership
Motupa is thrilled to be back in the top flight of South African football. He expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m really happy and excited. My mood is at 100% now, and I’m eager to help the team.
My main focus is to score goals and create opportunities. I also want to help my teammates perform at their best, especially since many are new to this level. We have a great coach guiding us every day.”
