Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, the wife of former Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, who represented Bauchi North in the 9th Assembly, has refuted claims that her judicial decisions were influenced by others.
This response comes after her husband publicly stated that he used his position to request favors for his colleagues from his wife during her tenure as the President of the Court of Appeal.
Denial of Influence on Judicial Decisions:
Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa asserts that she never allowed any external influence to compromise her oath of office or favor any party throughout her 40-year career in the judiciary.
She emphasizes that her decisions were always based on the facts, the law, and her conscience, adhering to her oath of office.
Furthermore, she emphasizes that during her tenure as the President of the Court of Appeal, she never interfered with the independence of her fellow justices in their judicial functions.
Misrepresentation of Words:
Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, in an interview with BBC Hausa, claims that his words were misrepresented.
He explains that he was interrupted by former Senate President Ahmed Lawan before he could fully elaborate on the nature of the assistance his wife provided.
He clarifies that the help he mentioned was within the context of the support that professionals in various fields can offer in their respective roles and did not involve any illegal or unethical activities.
He maintains that he has never imposed upon his wife’s professional autonomy or attempted to influence her judgment on cases or the management of her office, emphasizing that such matters are not even discussed in their home.
Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa categorically denies any influence on her judicial decisions, reiterating that her choices were always based on the law, facts, and her conscience.
Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, in turn, claims that his words were taken out of context and that he never attempted to influence his wife’s professional decisions.
The issue has generated public outrage, with some calling for the former lawmaker’s arrest.
Nonetheless, both Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa and Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa maintain their respective positions regarding the allegations.
