Tebogo Moloi, the former outspoken assistant coach for Orlando Pirates, has taken a surprising turn in his career.
After years of coaching, he decided to step away from the football field and venture into the engineering industry in 2023.
Currently, he’s working for SEW Eurodrive as the company’s ambassador for the South African region.
Moloi’s coaching journey has been quite eventful.
He was with Orlando Pirates from 2012 to 2016, before moving to Chippa United in 2017, where he served as an assistant coach and later as a caretaker coach.
In 2020, he took charge of the amateur side Super Eagles FC in the Free State.
By 2022, he was coaching Linari FC in the Lesotho Premier League, embracing yet another challenge in his diverse career.
Despite his current break from football, Moloi hasn’t ruled out a return to coaching.
In an interview with FARPost, he shared his love for the sport and his future aspirations.
Moloi mentioned that he’s currently content and at peace with his new job, enjoying life outside football.
However, he envisions a return to coaching around the age of 70, focusing on nurturing young talent.
“If I have to be honest, I’m currently enjoying my life outside of football,” Moloi expressed.
“Coaching is something that I love and have passion for.
But I think in SA, we’re never given the recognition and respect that we deserve.
That’s why I chose to step aside for a while.”
Moloi’s Vision for South African Football
Moloi emphasized his desire to contribute to the future of South African football by coaching upcoming young talents.
He believes he can make a significant impact on the development of these young players.
“I haven’t given up on coaching or football.
But I think I will come back to the game when I’m around 70.
And when I come back, my plan is to coach these upcoming young talents.
That’s the future of SA football, I believe I can do something in helping the boys.”
For now, Moloi is enjoying his new role and even finds time to play golf, fully embracing his life outside the football pitch.
