Former Chippa United coaches Siyabulela Gwambi and Kurt Lentjies are embarking on new coaching journeys in the SAFA Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League, marking an exciting new chapter for both of them.
Gwambi Takes the Helm at Gqeberha United FC
Siyabulela Gwambi, known for his roles as assistant and interim coach with Chippa United, has now been appointed as the head coach of Gqeberha United FC.
This new club is a fresh addition to the Eastern Cape’s third-tier league, having taken over the status of Amampondo United ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Gqeberha United, based in Gqeberha, is already making strides under Gwambi’s leadership.
The team has kicked off their pre-season preparations, gearing up for what promises to be an ambitious campaign.
The club’s main goal is to vie for the league title and secure a spot in the national playoffs by the end of the season.
Kurt Lentjies Joins FC Ravens
On the other side, Kurt Lentjies has signed on as the new head coach for FC Ravens.
Lentjies, who previously managed Chippa’s feeder side Peacemakers FC in the ABC Motsepe League, is set to lead FC Ravens this season.
The 39-year-old, who brings valuable experience from his time in the PSL, is expected to steer FC Ravens towards the national playoffs with hopes of achieving promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Last season, Eastern Cape’s Highbury FC earned their place in the SA second-tier league by winning the 2023/24 ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs.
With the new season on the horizon, it will be intriguing to see how Gwambi and Lentjies leverage their elite league experience to excel in the lower division with their new teams.
Stay tuned as SAFA Eastern Cape will soon announce the start date for the 2024/25 ABC Motsepe League season.
