Visit by the foreign minister to the Philippines

The senior member of the Cabinet is embarking on his inaugural visit to the Philippines on Tuesday. This visit follows the initiation of a fresh partnership encompassing climate, trade, and foreign policy between the United Kingdom and the Philippines in December 2021.

Expressing enthusiasm about the visit, the senior minister conveyed his delight to be in the Philippines for the first time, highlighting the shared values and interests between the two countries.

During his visit, Mr. Cleverly is scheduled to hold meetings with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo.

The Indo-Pacific region holds significant importance for the UK’s security concerns, prompting Mr. Cleverly to make multiple trips to the region since assuming his role last year.

Mr. Cleverly expressed his excitement regarding the visit, underlining the common values and interests that bind the UK and the Philippines. He further emphasized the expansion of collaborative efforts, which encompasses the growth of trade and investment through British investment partnerships, and the deepening of cooperation across security, maritime, and climate matters.
